This benefit provides a reliable backup ride home when unexpected situations prevent you from using your usual commuting method.
When Can I Use It?
Each organization establishes its own eligibility rules and usage policies. Common qualifying situations include:
- Personal Illness: You become sick during your workday.
- Family Emergency: An urgent situation requires you to leave work unexpectedly.
- Severe Weather: Adverse conditions make walking, biking, or outdoor transit unsafe.
- Carpool / Vanpool Cancellation: Your driver or pool partner leaves early or cancels unexpectedly.
- Transit Interruptions & Overtime: You miss your regular transit connection or are required to work unscheduled overtime.
☝️Program parameters and valid usage scenarios vary. Always check your organization's specific CommuteHub guidelines if you are unsure whether your situation qualifies.
How do I request a ride?
|
To request a ride, open the Guaranteed Ride Home or Emergency Ride Home widget in the CommuteHub app and select Claim. From there, the process depends on how your organization has set up the program. Some organizations may ask you to answer a few questions before your request is processed, while others provide your ride information right away.

How Does the Ride & Reimbursement Work?
Because program setups differ by organization, your ride or financial reimbursement may be issued through one of several methods:
- Rideshare or Taxi Codes: You receive a promo or account code (e.g., for Uber, Lyft, or a local taxi provider) to apply directly when booking your ride.
- Value Vouchers: You receive a ride voucher with a pre-set maximum dollar amount covering all or part of your fare.
- Out-of-Pocket Payment & Reimbursement: You pay for the emergency ride yourself and request reimbursement afterward by submitting your itemized receipt.
Reimbursements via Dynamic Tango Cards
If your organization relies on out-of-pocket reimbursements, you will typically need to upload your receipt in the Rewards / Reimbursements section of CommuteHub.
Once approved, many organizations reimburse your exact out-of-pocket expense using a Dynamic Tango Card—a digital gift voucher generated for the specific dollar amount you spent.
Important — Administrative Review Times:
Reimbursements via Dynamic Tango Cards (or other payment methods) are rarely instant. Many organizations manually verify receipts and approve requests through an admin. Processing times vary by organization, so please allow time for your request to be reviewed before receiving your reward email.
☝️Additionally, many organizations require emergency rides to originate from approved locations, such as your primary workplace.
Need Additional Rides?
Most organizations provide a fixed quota of emergency rides per calendar year.
If you exhaust your allocated rides, your organization may allow you to redeem accumulated Commute Points for extra ride vouchers, rideshare codes, or Tango Cards via the Rewards tab.
Availability of additional ride redemptions varies by organization setup.
