Looking for a ride, a travel buddy, or a better commute option? The Find a Ride feature helps you discover carpools, vanpools, bikepools, and transit options that fit your route and schedule.
To get started, open Pools from the main menu. You'll find two tabs:
- My Posts – Manage your own ride offers and requests.
- Search – Explore rides and pools posted by other users.
The Search tab is where our smart matching technology helps you find the most relevant commute options.
Customize Your Search
You can adjust your search to find the matches that work best for you.
Available options include:
- Search within all users or only specific networks, such as your company or location.
- Include or exclude vanpools.
- Add your preferred travel days and times.
- Choose your preferred role for carpools (driver, passenger, or both).
These settings help narrow down the results and improve match quality.
Browse Your Matches
Your search results show available rides that best match your trip details. For privacy reasons, pool listings only show an approximate pickup area rather than a user's exact address. This helps you find compatible matches while keeping everyone's home location private. After connecting, you can use messaging to arrange a pickup location together.
You may also notice activity indicators on posts, such as:
- Active this week
- Active this month
- No recent activity
These indicators show when the person who created the post was last active on the platform. Recent activity can help you identify users who are more likely to respond quickly.
Activity status is also one of the factors used when sorting search results, helping you see more relevant and active matches first.
Contact a Match
Found a ride that looks promising?
Open the pool listing and select Message to contact the user directly through the platform.
The other user will receive an email notification, allowing you to start the conversation and coordinate your trip details.
How Smart Matching Works
Our matching algorithm considers several factors to help you find the most relevant commute options.
1. Location Matching
The platform uses two matching methods.
On Route Matching
Instead of requiring identical pickup and drop-off locations, On Route matching looks for trips that naturally pass near your route.
The system creates a search corridor along your trip and looks for rides traveling through that area.
The search corridor adjusts automatically based on trip distance:
- 10 km (6.2 mi) trip: approximately 2.5 km (1.55 mi) corridor
- 100 km (62 mi) trip: approximately 25 km (15.5 mi) corridor
- Very short trips: minimum search radius of 1 km (0.62 mi)
🔎 This approach helps you discover more potential matches, even when start and end points are not exactly the same.
Exact Match
Exact Match uses search areas around both your origin and destination.
This method:
- Finds rides with similar pickup locations.
- Finds rides with similar destinations.
- Looks for return trips that may also fit your journey.
- Prioritizes closer location matches.
Because the criteria are more specific, you may see fewer results, but they tend to be geographically closer.
Vanpools use the same location logic, although availability depends on their published routes and schedules.
2. Time Matching
Regular Trips
For recurring trips, the system:
- Matches rides operating on your selected weekdays.
- Searches for departures within approximately ±1 hour of your preferred time.
- Compares schedules to find the closest time fit.
One-Time Trips
For one-time trips:
- Selecting only a date shows rides available on that day.
- Selecting both a date and time shows rides departing within approximately ±1 hour of your preferred time.
Vanpools may appear with slightly broader time ranges due to more flexible schedules.
3. Role Preferences (Carpools)
For carpool trips, you can choose whether you want to:
- Drive and offer seats.
- Ride as a passenger.
- Stay flexible and do either.
The system only shows carpool matches that align with your selected preference first.
4. Activity and Result Sorting
After all matching and filtering is completed, results are ranked to show the most relevant options first.
Several factors influence the order of results, including:
- How closely the route matches your trip.
- The difference between your preferred travel times.
- The user's recent activity status.
Users who have been active recently may appear higher in the results, helping you connect with people who are more likely to respond.
